Bid Registration
You will have to register with us at our reception once you have decided to bid on something.
You will then be given a temporary buyer's number, which will only be valid for the auction that you have actually registered for. This will be subject to a refundable deposit if you fail to win any lots.
Deposits
A security deposit of £100 is required by Newton from any bidder that temporarily registers for its general auction on Saturdays. Either the deposit is set off against purchases when the auction takes place, or is fully reimbursed following the returning of the temporary buyer's number.
After your registration has been completed you will be given your buyer's number on a card. This should be presented to the auctioneer when you start bidding. Please go to our reception either at the end of the sale, or after you have completed your bidding, to hand in your temporary buyer's number. If your deposit has been taken this will then be refunded.
Bidding on Items
There are various options you have regarding bidding on an item. This can be done in the room, by telephone, or, in the case of an online auction, by bidding through the Internet. A commission bid is another option.
Bidding in the room; simply raise your paddle number in the air when you want to bid for an item at the asking price. If your bid is successful the auctioneer will make a note of the number. In any instance where you want to pay for an item straight after your successful bid, please wait around 15 minutes before going to the cashiers.
Bidding online; as all of our sales are now online bids can be made in realtime by visiting www.i-bidder.com.
Commission Bids; please either use the commission bid form at the reception or make use of the relevant link on our website to leave a commission bid online. By filling in this form you are giving Newton Auctioneers written permission to act on your behalf by placing a maximum bid regarding item(s) that appear at one of our sales.
After the Auction
After the auction has ended, and you have been successful with your bid(s), please settle your bill at the reception. If you didn't attend the auction in person, please telephone our main office number, which should be the branch where the item(s) were sold.
Buyers Premium
Newton Auctioneers does charge a buyers premium, and this is subject to VAT relevant to the hammer value of every lot purchased. The buyers premium is 15% with VAT on top.
Bids placed by bidders via i-bidder.com involve an additional buyers premium of 3% from the service provider, and also VAT. These rates are in addition to the 15% buyers premium rates.
Payments
You pay for the amount that the lot was sold for, plus the buyers premium (which is a percentage of the items sold under the hammer, i.e. hammer price). VAT may also be added onto the hammer price and the buyers premium.
You'll receive a breakdown of costs, relating to your total purchases, in your invoice.
The following methods of payment are accepted by us:
Cash (sterling), instant bank transfer, debit, bankers draft, credit card. A 3% surcharge will be added on the total invoice value for payments by credit card.
Collecting Your Goods
Payments have to be made either on the day the sale takes place, or before 12pm on the next working day. There are no exceptions, and if you fail to pick up your goods during this period you will lose your deposit. There will also be a £40 administration charge imposed relating to resale of items. Goods should be collected on the sale date and you will have until 4pm the next working day to take them off our premises.
